Intern: Social Policy and Development

UNRISD is now accepting applications for a three-month internship position to begin in September 2008 (preferred starting date 1 of September). Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD degree programme (as per UN Secretariat rules regarding interns) in economics, sociology, political science or a related field from an accredited university and have academic and professional experience in issues related to social policy and poverty in developing countries. Written and spoken fluency in English is essential.

While at UNRISD, the intern will be asked to:

    * provide substantive input into the chapters “Financing Social Policy” and “Social Protection and Poverty Reduction” for UNRISD’s upcoming flagship report on Poverty Reduction and Policy Regimes;

    * assist, as needed, with the preparation of several manuscripts for publication, including programme papers and edited volumes on Social Policy and Migration in Developing Countries, Social Policy in Mineral-Rich Countries, and Pension Funds and Economic Development.

The deadline for applications is Friday 8 August 2008 (Midnight, Central European Time). The usual duration of the internship is three months, with the possibility of extension of up to three additional months. Applicants are asked to specify their dates of availability within the six-month timeframe between September 2008 and February 2009.
